Business card QR codes

How to Add a QR Code to a Business Card

A business card QR code can make a printed card more useful by letting someone save your contact details, open your website, view a portfolio or connect to a profile page. The best option depends on whether you want people to save a contact or visit a page that you can update later.

Choose vCard or website

A vCard QR code is useful when the main goal is saving your name, phone number, email, company and website directly to a phone contact list. This works well for networking events, sales visits and local service businesses.

A website QR code is better if you want to send people to a landing page, booking link, portfolio, LinkedIn profile or contact form. A web page can be updated after the cards are printed, while the information inside a static vCard QR code cannot.

How to create the code

In QuickQR Studio, choose Contact for a vCard QR code or Website for a landing page QR code. Enter only the details you are comfortable sharing publicly, then generate the QR code and download the PNG.

Add a short call-to-action near the code, such as “Save my contact” or “View portfolio”. Without a label, some people may not know whether the code opens contact details, a website or something else.

Design tips for printed cards

Leave quiet space around the QR code so the scanner can distinguish the code from nearby text, logos or design elements. Do not place the QR code too close to the edge of the card, a fold, a cut line or glossy decoration.

Avoid very small QR codes. Business cards have limited space, so test the final size on the actual paper stock or a realistic proof. Scan the card in normal lighting and at arm’s length before approving print.

What to check before printing

Check the spelling of names, phone numbers and email addresses. Test the QR code with multiple phones and make sure the destination looks good on mobile. If you use a website link, avoid URLs that may expire or change without a redirect.

For teams, use a consistent format across all staff cards so the brand, scan instructions and contact fields are clear and predictable.
